Long-term housing solutions and welcome-home materials can help transform and set up individuals experiencing homelessness for success. That’s why SoCalGas volunteers welcomed the opportunity to join LA Family Housing (LAFH) in move-in preparation activities and assembly of welcome-home kits for a new 56-unit supportive housing community in observance of the National Day of Service.

“It’s an amazing opportunity to join with LA Family Housing year after year to give back to our neighbors,” said Claudia Andrade, community relations manager at SoCalGas. “Every action makes a difference for individuals transitioning out of homelessness, and we hope to provide support for the new residents here in Sylmar.”

Volunteers participated in various activities to help the residents have a smoother move, including, professional artist-led creation of welcome home signs, writing personalized cards, and assembling hobby kits to help residents stay positive and engaged. LAFH connects with thousands of individuals every year through street outreach, getting them into safe temporary housing, or helping them sign their first leases. Donations and volunteer activities may help new residents immediately feel more at home in their new apartment than in their previous habitation or offset some of the start-up expenses of a new home.

As part of our ASPIRE 2045 sustainability goals, SoCalGas plans to invest $50 million over the next 5 years to drive positive change in diverse and underserved communities. Last year, SoCalGas contributed $9.6 million in total community investment, with $4.8 million supporting health & human services, and $2.3 million supporting education causes.
